The Compassionate Care Manual

Education that strengthens both clinical judgment and human presence.

Live, facilitated and flexible computer-based learning for nursing students and healthcare professionals whose work touches pregnancy, birth, emergency care, surgery, maternal–fetal medicine, labor and delivery, NICU care, behavioral health, spiritual care, social work, bereavement, leadership, quality improvement, or follow-up care.

Volume I

Foundations in Compassionate Care

Twelve approximately 150-minute Masterclasses build a clinically accurate, human-centered foundation for pregnancy and infant loss care.

Nursing programs and healthcare institutions may select live facilitated instruction, computer-based training, or a blended pathway. Reflection supports awareness rather than confession, and personal disclosure is never required.

Four-chamber movement

MC01

Opening Masterclass

When a Pregnancy Does Not End as Expected

Masterclass 01 introduces the broad clinical landscape of pregnancy and infant loss, the difference between classification and individual significance, disciplined curiosity, family-led language, and the CARE discipline of Acknowledge.

“A family's grief should never be measured by gestational age.”

Current status: cleared for controlled human-review distribution. It is not yet cleared for participant pilot delivery or represented as approved for nursing contact hours.

Flexible completion routes

One complete foundation. More than one responsible pace.

Institutions can complete all twelve Masterclasses through a schedule that supports learner capacity, operational realities, and meaningful integration between sessions.

01

One-year pathway

Three Masterclasses per quarter complete Volume I across one year.

02

Extended pathway

One Masterclass per quarter completes Volume I across three years.

03

Institution-aligned pathway

A tailored sequence preserves the full twelve-Masterclass foundation while aligning timing with institutional priorities.

Computer-based training

Focused digital learning. More than a talking-head video.

Each Masterclass can also be divided into focused, computer-based modules designed for hospital learning systems and self-paced professional education.

01

Concise video instruction

Short teaching segments introduce the module's essential concepts in a focused and digestible format.

02

Case scenario

A realistic care situation invites the learner to recognize needs, consider options, and apply compassionate judgment.

03

Family perspective

A human-experience perspective connects clinical decisions and communication with what a family may be carrying.

04

One CARE objective

Each module focuses on a defined Connect, Acknowledge, Respond, or Empower learning objective.

05

Applied reflection

A brief prompt helps learners translate the lesson into an observable practice they can carry into care.

06

Knowledge check

A short set of scenario-based questions confirms understanding and whether the module's CARE objective was accomplished.

Computer-based modules combine video instruction, scenario work, family perspective, reflection, and assessment, and can support self-paced, blended, or institution-aligned pathways.
